EU Regulations deadlines approaching

Upcoming EU regulations set key deadlines for the shipping industry, with the 2024 EU ETS surrender due by 30 September 2025 and the first FuelEU Maritime report required by 31 January 2026.
The EU ETS surrender date for 2024 emissions is 30 September 2025. Failure to comply results in an €100/tonne excess emissions penalty and the obligation to still surrender the missing EUAs.
The first FuelEU Maritime report, summarising energy consumption data collected in 2025, must be submitted to verifiers by 31 January 2026. By redistributing compliance surpluses and deficits within defined group of vessels, pooling can optimise compliance costs and even create financial opportunities.
At MCS, we support clients through every stage of the compliance process.
